Marco Mellia was born in Torino, Italy, on 09/01/1971. He graduated from the Politecnico di Torino with summa cum laudedegree in Electronic Engineering in February 1997 and with Ph.D. in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering in 2001. Between February and October 1997, he was a Researcher supported by CSELT (Italian Public Telephone Research Company), developing a Call Admission Control Algorithm for ATM networks and computer tools for simulation and performance evaluation. He was a Visiting PhD Student starting from february 1999 to november 1999 at the Computer Science Department of theCarnegie Mellon University, where he worked with Prof. Hui Zhang and Ion Stoica. From February to March 2002 he visited the Sprint Advanced Technology Laboratories Burlingame, California, working at theIP Monitoring Project (IPMON). During the summer 2011 he visisted Narus Inc, Sunnyvale, California, where he worked on traffic classification problems. Marco Mellia is involved and has been involved in several research project in the past, both at the national and international level. In particular, he is currently participating in several European Projects: he is WP coordinator in the EU funded project STREP "Napa-Wine - Network Aware Peer-to-Peer application over Wise network" that is being coordinated by the Politecnico di Torino. He participates in the network of excellent Trend: Towards Real Energy-efficient Network Design and Econet: low Energy Consumption Networks, both dealing with green network design. In the past, he has been involved in the IST project Nobel phase 2- FP6-027305. Finally, in the Network of Excellence (NoE) - FP6-507613 - "Euro-NGI" and "Euro-FGI", and NoE FP6-001933 - "Ephoton-One" and "Ephoton-One+". He was involved in the European ACTS-SONATA FP5 ``Switchless Optical Network for Advanced Transport Architecture''. He also partecipated in several National Research Project (PRIN) funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Reasearch. He actually is the primary investigator in the PRIN '05 project "Mimosa-Caratterizzazione di traffico a livello trasporto: analisi e modelli di flussi dati e real time". He was also part of several research project funded by 3rd party industries: he is the main responsible of the research contract between the Dipartimento di Elettronica and Fastweb Italia, Narus Inc, Vodafone Omnitel. All projects focus on Internet traffic monitoring and classification; he was responsible of the research contract between the Dipartimento di Elettronica and ALCATEL Marcoussis (FR) which subject was the study of QoS routing protocols and algorithms. He has co-authored over 150 papers published in international journals and presented in leading international conferences, all of them in the area of telecommunication networks. He participated in the program committees of several conferences including ACM SIGCOMM, IEEE Infocom, IEEE Globecom and IEEE ICC. Currently he's working at the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Telecomunicazioni at Politecnico di Torino as an Assistant Professor. |
