Maurizio M. Munafò is Assistant Professor at the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Telecomunicazioni of Politecnico di Torino.

He was born in Locarno, Switzerland, in 1966. He holds a Dr.Ing degree in Electronics Engineering (since 1991) and a Ph.D. in Telecommunications Engineering (since 1994) both from Politecnico di Torino. During his Ph.D. he spent 6 months at the Computer Networks Institute (IND) of the University of Stuttgart.
Between 1994 and 1997 he collaborated with the Telecommunication Group of Politecnico di Torino with a research grant from CSELT (now TIM) for the study of Traffic Control in ATM networks.
Since July 1997 he is with the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Telecomunicazioni of Politecnico di Torino as a member of the Telecommunication group.

His teaching duties at Politecnico comprise graduate-level courses on basic telecommunication networks and advanced topics on discrete-event computer simulation.

He participated in several National and European projects such as the European ACTS project BONAPARTE on deployment of an PON for a teleteaching application and the European IST project CANDLE on the definition of a platform for shared teaching content. He has been in charge for the working unit of Politecnico di Torino in the National PRIN project PATTERN on radio sensor networks. Presently, he is involved in the Italian project BORA-BORA.

His research activities have covered the simulation and analysis of traffic control schemes in ATM networks, focusing on the performances of Internet transport protocols over an ATM infrastructure, the study of routing and admission control schemes in Integrated-Services Packet Networks, the characterization of data traffic in wireless networks using passive measurements, and the identification of worms and traffic anomalies in data networks.

He has co-authored over 70 papers published in international journals and presented in leading international conferences in the area of telecommunication networks.
